What is Precast?

The Precast Stage is when the piece is in its rawest state. All Mark James finished bronze sculptures begin as sculptures of oil-based clay. Since this oil-based clay does not dry out it remains pliable, thereby allowing Mark James to continually work and sculpt the piece until he produces for us to see what is seen in his mind’s eye.

Hands That Once Held Six Guns
This portrays a late-in-life moment of epiphany for this grandfather as, at the moment his grandson grasps his 'trigger finger,' his own jaded past rushes to the forefront of his mind. He holds the innocence of this newborn – who holds the symbol of the life he once led.
This grandfather now considers the future of his grandson – the different paths he may choose – sobered, realizing the influence and power he has on the life this child ultimately chooses.
